Okay, so you guys know that I LOVE Adam Lamber.

Well, he has his new albumn out and I went on Amazon to take a look at it and these are the albumn photos that are listed.

Um... is it just me or does the first picture look like Pink with black hair... um, I mean blue hair?

And this one with the metal glove thing... Beyonce wanna-be?

I'm feeling a little dissapointed.

That and I listened to the samples and the ONLY song that I heard the showcased his AMAZING voice at all was the theme song for 2012 "Time for Miracles"

I wish I could find the charger for my camera!!!!

There are sooo many things that I want to take a picture of and put in my blog, but I can't because my battery is dead. I might just have to go buy a new one (ouch!).

But, until then, let me tell you that in the past week I've driven over 1,000 miles!!! CRAZY!!! And been in three separate states! Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma!

Shew! Hopefully I won't have to do that again for a while.

Adam Lambert was my FAVORITE Idol contestant EVER!

I know his version of "Ring of Fire" was kind of creepy but it was what made me want MORE MORE MORE!!! I loved it!

He's amazing and he's now apparently doing the theme song for the movie 2012. The song is called "Time for Miracles" and a music teaser/trailer has come out that is incredible. I just wish we could hear even more of the song on it!! I look forward to keeping track of his, what I'm sure will be amazing, career!

This year Steve was already living in Abilene during the week during my birthday.

Needless to say, my birthday was a real bust. I was feeling very overwhelmed with all four children at home and being drawn and quartered.

So, Steve gave this card to me along with my birthday present (a beautiful 1karat journey diamond necklace from Zales!)

He nailed it! (He usually does when it comes to cards and gift-giving).

The reason I thought to post this was because my sweet and dear-to-my-heart friend, Kristen, had a bad day the other day and I thought this might cheer her up.

"How Hungry Are You?"

The other night I was setting the table for dinner and putting food on the kids plates so it could cool off before they actual got to the table and I asked the kids, "How hungry are you?"

Noah was a little bit hungry and Olivia just said hungry."

Zachy's response was altogether different.

"Zachy, how hungry are you?"

"A little and a kind of a lot of a medium half."

Oh... well that clears that question right up!

Our New Destructor!

We went to the Dollar Theater last night to see

Monsters v. Aliens

We checked the mailbox as we were driving away from the house and it had Olivia's birthday present from Grammy & Poppy in it. (Thank you!)

Olivia fell asleep on the drive there with the present in her lap.

Thought it was too cute and had to take a picture of it.

Then, when I got the popcorn at the movies, I set it in Jessica's car seat for a moment to take care of something and when I looked back I saw that she had spilled some of it.

Once again, too cute, had to take a picture of it.

(She does seem a little surprised that this happened to her!)

Today I went to Wal-Mart (or, as they say our here "The Wal-Marts") with some coupons.

I should preface this by saying that I always have coupons with me. When they come in the mail I put the ones I want in the big pocket of my diaper bag so they are always with me, should I remember that I put them there.

Today, after subjecting my children to the dressing room and other random boring things. I made them sit in the formula isle with me while I went through my coupons. You know... the really great ones that the formula companies send you right at the beginning of your baby's life and then you only get the cheap piddly ones after that.

Well, today I SCORED on the "saving money" front.

I bought ALL of this... worth $88.32

for only

$10.32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There may be some of you out there thinking... "But, Catherine. You don't bottle feed your baby." And, yes, while this is true, it never hurts to have a back-up plan. And, when my children do wean themselves (between 5-10 months of age) I'll already have this great formula supply on hand to supplement her with!

Father's Day 2009

So, for Father's Day this year... as I've told you before, we went all out!

This morning we had Steve open up the kid's cards first. They all got him a cute card about how cool he is. And this year, Noah got him a card all by himself. It was REALLY funny! It had a picture of a Boston Terrier in the front with a surprised look in it's face and it read,

"For Father's Day this year I made you a gift all by myself!"

Then you open it up and it says,

"It's out in the yard!"

I thought it was pretty funny, but the thing that cracked me up the most was that Noah got it!

Awww..... my little boy is growing up!

(sniff... such a proud moment for a Mommy)

Then Steve opened his gift from the kids. (I know you MUST be diggin' the cool ties that he was sporting. The kids made them for him at a Primary activity the previous day. He actually wore them to church. Such a good Daddy!)

It was an 8x8 hardback book (20 pages) from Shutterfly that I made with the "Daddy-o" backgroud and had different pictures of Steve with his kids on each page with little messages under each. It was pretty cool and Steve really liked it.

After church Steve came home to a "Special Dinner."

Do you remember that blog entry a couple of entries ago with the "hamburger cupcake?"

Well... I made it for Steve and the kids had a great time bringing it in to him as if it were his special meal.

Steve was pretty impressed. He even asked me how many of the red checkerboard containers I had to buy to do that "meal" for him. He was surprised to hear that I made them. Actually, I think he was VERY impressed. (Maybe even relieved that I didn't buy them.)

Then the real meal was brought out.

When I ask Steve what he wants for a special meal there are usually two things that he mentions. One we call "The Cheesy Pepper Meal" and the other is "The Pepperoni Pasta."

Since he got the Cheesy on for his birthday, I decided that the Pepperoni one was the one. Mainly because it's a lot easier to make than the other one is. A LOT.

When we have these special dinners I bring out the good China as well as the wine glasses. The boys always act "fancy" when I do. It's pretty funny when they get going.

Someday they are going to REALLY hate these pictures!

Then came time to open up the rest of his gifts. (Don't you love that grown-up wrapping paper?! Nothing says, "I see you as such a wonderful adult with great grown-up qualities, like the movie Cars wrapping paper!)

His first gift was this:

He really liked this gift! (He thought it was the "big gift" I was referring to earlier in my blog)

The next gift was his annual Father's Day Calendar!

He thought he wan't getting one this year because he got that cool Father's Day book instead. However, Shutterfly had sent me a coupon for a FREE picture book. All I had to do was pay shipping, so he got BOTH!!!

You remember the cool Elvis pictures I posted earlier this year of Steve being Elvis for a church activity?

Well, I had "The King" sign the cover of this calendar for me! (Just kidding! It was Steve's idea to pretend like he was signing it. Too funny!)

He was relieved to see that he still got his precious calendar and I really like making it for him! He gets a different picture of his family every month to look at at work and this year I found this website that actually allowed me to put pictures in the dates themselves. So, for example, there is a picture of me on July 15th! My birthday! Pretty cool!

NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE!!!!!!

The BIG present was in the Father's Day Card I bought for him. I gave it to him last and I think he just thought it was a card until I insisted that the kids not stand in front of me while he opened it up so I could take pictures of him.

When he opened the card... THIS is what he saw!!!!

Two tickets to see AEROSMITH AND ZZ TOP in concert next month!!!!!!!

He got this huge grin on his face and said, "No way... these are fake."

(Well, to tell the truth, they are fake. I had to scan an old ticket that was lying around the house and then edit in the concert info and then print them.)

So, I said, "That's only because the real ones won't be here for another couple of weeks!"

I love the HUGE grin he got on his face.

Bad News!

The contract fell through on our house

I guess the people who put the contract on it decided that they really weren't ready to own a house and decided that they wanted to rent instead.

I say... "Go ahead and waste your money. But I would much rather own due to the rate of return you get on your investment. But, to each their own."

So, hopefully we'll get another bite soon.

We REALLY would like to go and live with Steve again.

Yes, he left two weeks ago and, while we do see him on weekends, it's just not the same as seeing him every day. Olivia sure misses him a lot!

Change of Plans

So... you know how I said a while back that we were moving to Arlington where Steve was going to start a new job mid May?

Weeeelllllll.... That job was contracting with GM who, as you should know by now, is experiencing some difficulties. Plants are closing and bankruptcy... GM is in the crapper. A week or so after we accepted the offer (but before we actually started) the GM plant in Arlington announced that, rather than shutting down for the normal two weeks in the summer to get ready for the new line of 2010 vehicles... they would be shutting down for 9 weeks!!!

Ummmm.... so are we moving from one closed plant to another just to find ourselves in the same boat we're in now, six months from now?!?

So, before Steve actually started this GM job, we got another job offer from this company called Tetra Tech which contracts engineers to do various jobs all over our great country. This job was based in Abliene, TX (West Texas) at Dyess Air Force Base.

Well, we ended up taking this job instead. We felt it was a better choice for us.

My Secret Crush

Steve and I went to see the new X-Men movie tonight.

I am afraid that it really wouldn't have mattered whether the movie was good or bad, I just enjoyed watching it because Hugh Jackman was in it.

It seems I have a bit of a crush on him.

I liked the movie. It wasn't my favorite X-Men movie, but I still enjoyed it and didn't feel like it was a waste of time.

And I really enjoyed getting to spend the evening with my wonderful husband. We went out to eat and then to the movie with just Jessica and it was GREAT!

The New Job!

The Experience

So, to tell you about my birth experience...

To start off, let me put in a reminder that Steve got laid off from his job at the end of February and has been actively seeking a new job for the past month. Around the end of last month, we started receiving offers, one of which was a job in Tooele, Utah and he needed to be able to go out and see the facilities before he would be able to make a decision. However, there was another job that he had promised to give a decision to on the 15th (ish) so he had to tour the Utah facilities before that date.

I am telling you this because Steve Hardy left from Dallas to fly to Utah on Monday, April 13th and would only be gone until the evening of the following day, Tuesday, April 14th. So, Steve told me that I was "on bed rest" until he got home.

Nothing different had been happening. Same old random contractions that I'd been having for a couple of weeks. Nothing that seemed out of the ordinary or too painful. I spent that evening packing my children's bags for their respective sitters' homes in the event that I did go into labor.

Around 1:30 in the morning I was sitting at the computer catching up on some things while wrestling with some midly uncomfortable contractions. This, again, was nothing new but I went ahead and went to bed because I just couldn't stay up any longer.

At about 3:20 in the morning I woke up with more contractions and tried to go back to sleep but they wouldn't let me so I decided to go ahead and get up and take a shower. If this was the real thing I needed to be clean, right!?

I was hoping that the shower would relax me enough that I could go back to sleep, however this was not the case. They kept coming so now I had some decisions to make. Remember, Steve was in Utah at this point, so all of the things that he would normally take care of while I was dealing with being in labor were now my responsibility as well. The first thing I did was to text Steve to let him know that I thought I was in labor. He called me back quickly and we discussed what my next step should be. We decided that I should call my doula (a professional birthing coach) and get her started and then talk to my babysitting people to get the kids taken care of.

I called Jennifer, my doula, and she and I discussed how far along I thought I was. I have such a hard time deciding this. When you hear birth stories it always seems like the whole labor thing should be rather gradual but this is not how my body works. (Really, it's pretty much how I do everything... ) Instead I hit it head on and full force. So, after some discussion I decided that I would go through a couple more contractions before I made a decision about when she should come over. I hate getting people up and going if it's not necessary and it was four in the morning.

The next thing I did was to call my friend, Tiffany, and ask her to come over. For some reason her husband, Steve, was already up and sounded bright and chipper when he answered the phone. "Hello, deGala residence!"

Hey there Steve, sorry to wake you up.

That's okay, I was already up. What's up?

I think I'm in labor. (choking back a sudden emotional outburst)

Do you need me to come drive you to the hospital? (how sweet)

No, I just need to talk to your wife.

Okay, I'll go get her.

Tiffany got on the phone and I asked her if she could come over and hang out with the kids until they woke up and then dole them out to their respective sitters. She agreed and headed over. It didn't take long before she was there and I was grateful to see her.

In the meantime, I had gone through three more contractions and at this point they were about 3-4 minutes apart and 1 minute long. And, they were starting to get pretty rough. I texted my doula and she responded saying she would be right over.

Tiffany helped me go through my closet to pick out my "going home" outfit and to finish packing my bag for me. I had started my bag the night before but hadn't finished it. Thank goodness I had had Steve get the box of baby clothes out of the attic for the me the day before so I could have a boy and a girl "going home" outfit picked out.

The whole time Tiffany was helping me I was sitting on my bed. Once my contractions start, any movement on my part spurs on another contraction and, since I'm not a huge fan of them, I try to do everything in my power to lessen the chances of them happening any quicker than they have to.

By the time my doula, Jennifer, arrived I was really having to concentrate through my contractions. I don't know if I'd mentioned it before, but I had Olivia naturally and this was my plan again with this baby. No meds, all natural child birth. As we sat there the thought crossed my mind that I would really like to just have my baby there at home and not go to the hospital at all, but I didn't think that Jennifer and Tiffany would be too cool with the idea and I think Steve wouldn't have approved either so I decided to stay with the plan.

At about 5:25, Jennifer and I decided that it was probably time to go to the hospital. It takes about 30 minutes to get there from my house and some of my contractions were lasting for a minute and a half to two minutes. So we headed out to her SUV. It took me two contractions to get there. One I had to go through standing up in the front yard. That one was not very much fun. So, we got in the truck and I mentioned to Jennifer that I my water hadn't broken yet and did she have somthing that I could sit on. She got a blanket out of the back of her truck and handed it to me but, first of all, I was afraid to try to sit up enough to put it under me for fear of going into another contraction. And, second, her seats were heated and it felt really good on my back so I didn't want to lose the benefit of that.

I probably should have gone ahead and put the blanket under me but it all worked out. My water never breaks until right at the end. The drive to the hospital always seems like the longest drive on earth. And my contractions were getting REALLY had to deal with during it. At one point I had a contraction that I thought for sure was going to send me through the roof and make me lose control. Afterward I told Jennifer that I was concered that I wouldn't be able to avoid getting medicated. I said, "I have too many factors going against me here. My husband is gone, I started off being in labor tired (remember, only 2 hours of sleep) and to top it off, I have Restless Leg Syndrome (always have for as long as I can remember) and it always acts up when I'm tired so I am dealing with that as well as the contractions!" We decided that there wasn't anything we could do about it at that point, we'd just have to wait and see how things were going once we made it to the hospital.

A couple of contractions later (Jennifer said one of them lasted for 3 minutes!) I said, "I'm scared." Jennifer then did something that completely changed how I was handling my contractions. She said a prayer. As she was saying it I thought to myself, "Of course! Prayer! Why didn't I think of that? My husband might not be here, but my Father always is." So from that point on prayer became my mantra. When a contraction would start, Jennifer would say, "Roll over the top of it, Catherine." And I would imagine a huge clear ball coming toward me that I would slide over the top of while the pain (the ball) would slide below me. All the while I would say over and over again in my head, "Heavenly Father, please help me get through this one... Heavenly Father, please help me get through this one!" I began to gain my control back and things became more manageable (not easier, just more manageable).

We finally made it to the hospital and I got wheeled into the ER where we checked in and then we headed for the Labor and Delivery floor. It was the strangest thing. The whole time I was being wheeled around the hospital I could have sworn that I was being pulled backward. I had my eyes closed so I could consentrate on my contractions (my nurse that was transporting me was a lively one and kept talking really loudly and cracking jokes with people... so I had to make an extra effort to block her out). The whole time I was being wheeled around I felt the nicest breeze on my face and I thought that there must be doors open to the outside. Finally I opened my eyes for a split second and realized that I was actually being pushed forward and that explained the breeze on my face. Strange.

We got to my room and got me up on the bed. The nurse checked me and said, "You're almost there!" I asked her how far and she just kept saying, "Almost there." How frustrating! Of course, at this point I thought I was probably at a 5 (out of 10) and that I still had a couple of hours to go. The nurse went out and found the doctor on call for the evening and then she came back in and let me know that I was complete. I couldn't believe it! I was all ready ready to have this baby. It seemed impossible. I was totally underestimating how far along I was. (Good thing we decided to go ahead and leave the house!)

I checked into the hospital at 5:55 AM and made it to my room and was all set up by 6:10AM. The doctor on call came in and checked me, confirmed I was complete and that's when I realized that it was time to push! My body just took over at that point. It was CRAZY!

One of the things that I wanted to do this time that I didn't do last time was to try to control how I handled my contractions, not to try to control my contractions. I don't know if that makes sense to you. But, trying to control your contractions just doesn't work. They have to happen, however, you can control how you handle them and I went into this one with the desire to differentiate the two. As I had contractions this time I realized much more clearly that the contractions not only had a definite purpose but I could actually understand and could tell that they were doing their job. This was the most clear to me when I realized that my body was pushing my baby down the birth canal all on it's own. You just become a spectator at this point.

Right before all of this happened, I had Jennifer call Steve on my cell phone and put him on speaker phone so he could at least be a part of what was going on. I felt so bad for him. I knew he wanted to be there to support me.

During my contractions I am always completely quiet. There is no sound, just concentration. This, however, is NOT the case when it comes time to push. When it's pushing time, I scream. It's not like I want to, it's just what I hav to do to get me through that part.

My doula really started working on coaching me and focusing. I was past being able to listen though. All I heard was her saying once, "Can you stop, Catherine?" I guess the doctor needed me to stop pushing so he could check for a cord. I told her "no" however I guess I did manage to stop for a second or two. Then I really bore down. And, in the matter of two good pushes, my baby was out!

It was funny because after the second push I realized that I was done and calmed right down. Jennifer, however, did not realize that I was done and she was still trying to coach me. She said, "All of a sudden you were really responsive and I thought, I'm doing a really good job." Then she heard the doctor say, "And that's it." and looked down and saw a baby there and realized it was all over.

This was at 6:23 AM. Just thirteen short minutes from the time they got me to my room.

My doctor didn't get to be there to help me deliver the baby and I was bummed about that. He knew that I was waiting to find out the sex of my baby and was supposed to annouce it right away, however, none of this crew knew it so here I am looking and looking and waiting and finally I started say, "What is it? What is it?" Everyone was ignorning me. I felt like I had to stand up on my bed and yell, "Is it a boy or a girl!!??!!" But Jennifer caught what I was saying quickly and announced that I had just had a baby girl! It was so exciting!

They handed me my sweet little girl and all I could say over and over again was, "She's so pretty!" I got the phone over to me and just kept saying, "Oh Steve, she's soooo pretty!!!" It was amazing!

I got to stay in that room with her for a little bit and then we headed to another floor to my recovery room. It was a crazy day. I couldn't go to sleep. Steve finally made it there that evening around 10 PM and, of course, he was immediatly in love. Who wouldn't be.

Now, we still haven't named her, but we will have a name for her by tomorrow afternoon. That's when I have to go into town to see my lactation consultant and I told the Medical Records lade, Mary, that I would be by to finish filling out the Birth Certificate Records then. It's been challenging to come up with a name. I think Steve has all but given up. I asked him if he just wanted me to tell him what I put on the Birth Certificate and he said yes. Maybe I will just do that. We'll see.

She is just the cutest thing EVER!!!

She weighed in at 7 lbs. 7 oz.

and was 20 inches long!

I have to say just how grateful I am

for braces right about now.

No, we don't have a name for her yet

and Yes, we did already leave the hospital.

So, oficially, she is "Baby Girl Hardy"

until we come up with something better.

Getting Ready for Baby!

Please excuse my outfit here. I am wearing a t-shirt and

my jammy bottoms. Not very attractive,

but VERY comfy!

So, on Saturday, after our annual Easter Egg Hunt over
at the Bishop's house, I decided that it was probably time
to get ready for this baby.

Some people pack bags and pick out outfits.

Others make sure they have enough diapers

or maybe they clean the house and arrange furniture.

I went to the salon and got a manicure and a pedicure!

I mean, honestly! Why on earth would I want to have ratty

nails when I go into labor? After all, they will be very visible while

I'm in labor. And I do like to have nice nails.

I had a little extra decor put on my big toes.

A little pink and white flower with some sparkle around it.

NOW I'm all set!

Noah is amazing!

This evening, Noah came up to me and asked
me if I would take him to Dollar General.

I asked him if he had any money and he said
he had about $1.60.

So, I agreed to take him and when Zachary found
out we were going he asked if he could go to. (Of course!)

At the store I let Zachy pick out a few pieces of the

dime candy while Noah was walking around the store

trying to find something in his price range.

Finally he came across these Ninjas that were a dollar

a piece. As he was looking through the selections he said this:

"I sure wish I had enough to buy one for Zach
too."
How does a Mother handle this kind of generosity from her eight-year-old son?

Well, after I scooped myself up off of the floor

(you see, I melted into a puddle of goo from his sweetness)

I offered to make up the difference for him.

It turned out that he only needed 8 cents but the

message was still there. He loves his brother.

What more could a mother ask for?

Noah was supposed to make a cake
with his Dad for the Blue & Gold Banquet.

Steve came up with this really cool idea
to make a "train cake."

So, first they made the thin sheet cake
and gave it grass, gravel and a railroad track.

Noah made an excellent track!

Then Steve frosted the engine and train car
and they added it to the cake. Noah decorated.

The finished product was pretty great and

Noah was VERY proud of it!

I haven't been posting very much...

Lemme 'splain.

I found this website (thank you, Kristen)

That you can slurp your blog into a book

form and actually create your own book that

can be published with it.

You can also create an original book that can be published.

Sort of like (or exactly like) a photo journal.

So, instead of spending all of my time blogging,

I have been spending all of my time journaling!

(I'm such a good Mormon Mommy!)

I finally got my smallest book posted on the

"blurb nation." I have a link on the side bar to the

right that will take you directly to my book.

It is about my trip to Philly with Steve.

Anyway, I'm really excited about having it

published so I will have a photo journal of

that fun trip!

So, anyway, if you feel like looking at it,

The day after Valentine's Day, I decided to use

hot rollers in my hair for church.

I thought it turned out pretty good so I had Noah take

a picture for me.

It took about eight tries but we finally got it right!

The the boys surprised me with my very own

Valentine!

It was one of my necklaces on a little sample

carpet in the shape of a heart.

I thought it was very sweet so I took a picture of it.

What a mess!

So... have you ever let your closet go

and it ended up being a swamp of clothing?

I neglected mine to the point that I thought I didn't have

any clothing anymore!

And Steve had to get into the other side of it to do

something with the fuse box and it was nearly

impossible to open the door.

So, I decided to go ahead and clean it one day while

Olivia was taking a nap.

Well, three hours (and more than one nap) later...

It was finally clean!

I went ahead and cleaned off my nightstand and

the rest of my bedroom while I was at it.

Steve was very impressed!

Our 4-D Baby!

Here is our little baby in the middle of a pretty big yawn!

It was really cool because we actually got to watch him/her

yawn and it looked like a real baby yawning, not an ultrasound baby

yawning!

I realize that it sounds like I've never had this type of ultrasound

before, but I have. It's just that the last time, when it was Olivia,

the pictures were so bad it made her look like a burn victim so I

ended up just throwing those pictures away!

These are much better!

First Annual Epiphany Dinner Party

I have tried and tried to upload an image for this post, but it's just not working for me today, so I'll just post and maybe I can get it to upload later.

This year I had the first of, hopefully, many dinner parties. I got the idea from one of my sister, Christina's, friends. It's called an Epiphany Dinner Party. The reason for this is because there is a holiday called "Epiphany" that falls on the 6th of January that commemorates the day that the Three Wise Men met the Savior. It's also supposed to officially be the last day of the Holiday season. What better excuse do you need to have a party? And this was a very fancy party.

I sent out the invitations a week in advance and five of my friends said that they could make it. The party was from 5-8 and they all showed up right around the same time (5:15).
Fashionably late, of course. We started off with crackers and cheese and cranberry pomegranate juice in the living room. (We totally rearranged our formal room and living room for the event.) It was the first time that I was able to use the beautiful pitcher and cups I got from my Nana when I went to visit her in Canada about 7 years ago.

We sat and chatted for a little while and then we moved into the formal room for dinner. I hired a girl from church, Courtney Gilbert, to come and serve us so I didn't have to keep getting up and down. We started off with a really nice salad. It was from a kit and had creamy balsamic vinagrette dressing topped with dried cranberries, sweet pecan chips and feta cheese. It was really good.

After the salad, Courtney served us Butternut Squash soup. I was a little worried because I had never tried it before. As a matter of fact, all of the things that I made (or purchased) were new to me. However, the soup turned out to be really good!

After the soup we were served the main course. I had made Cornish game hens with new potatoes and artichoke hearts. Courtney served this with a side of steamed vegetables. Another fantastic dish. The meal was finished with a slice of pumpkin cream cake, a snicker doodle cookie and a cup of wassail. (This was my first opportunity to use the tea set my Nana gave me). I had gone to town earlier in the day to purchase a drink that I hadn't had in a while that I thought would go nicely with dinner. It was a sparkling grape juice made by Meier's called Cold Duck.

Perfect.

It all was very lovely and a huge success.

After dinner we retired to the living room for an evening of talking and playing Dirty Santa. We all brought gifts to exchange and along with a little gift opening, there was a little gift stealing. It was very fun!

The whole evening turned out to be wonderful. I had some parting gifts for the ladies, little Santa and snowmen boxes that they all loved. And everyone said that they hoped I would make this an annual thing because they really enjoyed themselves. And, how often do young mothers get an opportunity to be pampered and relax and just have grown up conversation without any interruption?

I will definitely do it again!

My husband REALLY did well this year!

I didn't even know Dyson made a pink vacuum!

(No, I mean the vacuum... however, those ARE my legs!)

I was so excited when Steve showed it to me!

He was worried that I wouldn't like the pink,

however, I think it's waaaayyyy prettier than the yellow one!

Way to go Honey!!!!! (and thanks, again!)

I think I vacuumed for 3 hours straight after he gave it to me!

It's been a while since I've read something and plowed right through it.

It's always nice when you find a book that you just can't put down.

This one fits the bill. I found that I just couldn't wait to get back to it when I was forced to step away for a moment.

I won't tell you what it was about. There are tooooo many things to say.

Let me just say that Jennifer Leigh Youngblood and Sandra Poole did an excellent job!

You should read it!

Then... after you've read that one, I am told you need to read this one.

Stoney Creek, Alabama

It is written by the same authors.

It is not a sequel, just another excellent book that is an even faster read than the first one.

I haven't read it yet so I can't say for sure that that is how I'm going to feel about it, but I do have VERY high hopes for it.

(Hopefully not so high that there is no way it can fulfill my expectations... I hate it when that happens)

Anyway, I don't recommend books lightly so obviously I think that "Livin' in High Cotton" is worthy of your time.

If you do decide to take the plunge, let me know what you think!

Tonight for Family Home Evening (F.H.E.)

we decorated sugar cookie houses!

I made the cookies a few days ahead of time

and Zachary began counting down the days until he got to decorate his.

Zachy took his decorating responsibilites VERY seriously!

Noah was a little more thoughtful about how he went

about decorating his cookie house.

(He actually DID have a good time, he's just so into decorating

in this picture it just looks like he's bored)

Zachary, on the other hand, used as much

icing as he could.

Here is Noah's finished product.

Olivia didn't decorate one, she just enjoyed licking off all of the icing

that I put on for her.

Zachary, on the other hand, DID enjoy decorating his.

A Night of Pizza and a Very Large Rodent!

Friday night found the kids, me and some of our friends,

at Chuck E. Cheese's.

We really like this place, the kids have great fun and I can

choose to sit back and relax or join in the fun!

Zachary got really daring and decided to go on stage

while Chuck E. was singing and hold his hand and dance!

It was very cute!

The Queen and King's Throne

Zachary made a "throne" for Olivia today.

He called for me and said,

"Mommy! Look! The Queen is on her throne!"

After he made the throne for her he decided that it would

be more fun if he were on it with her.
My goodness these two are sooo stinkin' cute!

And it's not too terribly often that they get along this

well. Usually Olivia is screaming when Zachary

invades her personal space.

I guess she enjoyed being

"Queen for a Day!"

Even if her throne is a laundry basket!

This year we bought a real tree!

It's the second real tree of our married lives.

I bought a fake one before we got married and we have been

using it. It's more economical but the boys sure love having a real one!

We decorated it while Steve was out of town and,

since I'm not well acquainted with the trimming of real trees,

Steve informed me when he got home that it looked like someone

had put decorations on a felt board.

There were no spaces for the ornaments to tuck into

so I guess it looks silly and unkepmt but I have to say

that that was the easiest light hanging and decorating I've

EVER done! Scraggly or not I may do it that way every year!

I'm doing that by hand right now and have only completed

six of them so far.

figured that my sewing machine would break trying to

sew the pockets on that way.

My Christmas Advent Calendar - part 1

First of all...

Let me start by saying that dial-up SUCKS!!!

Now, I realize that it is absurd to point out the

obvious, but really! It took me

TWO DAYS

to upload these pictures!

Shew!

So, I hope you enjoy!

Let me explain to you what the purpose of these blocks are

(in case you didn't know).

When I went to Cali to visit Kristen, one of the many

activities she had planned for us was to make these

really great advent calendars.

The tree (which I will photograph after I've attached the pockets)

is about 50" tall and about 30" wide.

Each pocket (this is what the blocks will be once attached)

is 3" x 4".

This will be really cool to put little presents and treats

for each day of Christmas for the kids this year!

I'm very excited!

The idea for these came from Pottery Barn for Kids.

Some of the pockets are my version of their pockets and

some I came up with all myself.

(Just so you know... I will label each one accordingly.)

And each block is backed with stiff felt while the rest uses mostly

regular felt.

This was very time consuming,

but VERY FUN to do!

The #1 Movie in America?

First of all...

I NEED you all to understand that I am a

HUGE FAN

of the Twilight Saga.

To date I have read the series twice

and LOVED it both times.

I am VERY sad to say that I

AM NOT

a huge fan of the Twilight movie.

My husband, Steve, and I and some of our friends

went to see it for the first (and last) time last night.

We laughed through most of it.

I thought this movie was supposed to be

a drama, not a comedy!

What was up with Jasper looking like Edward Scissorhands!

And when Edward Cullen saw Bella for the first time...

the way he smashed his hand to his nose was laughable!!!

There were sooo many dissapointing scenes.

Soooo many ridiculous scenes.

"Spidermonkey"???

All of the "super-intensity" got really old, really quickly.

(What was up with all of those "crazy eyes"?)

And what about Bella NEVER going near Edward, he

was always the one approaching her and then he says,

"We can't be friends" like she's stalking him and

she is the one who needs to quit?!

Then sooo many long and drawn out scenes.

Sadly, I was VERY dissapointed!

Zachary the "Lion" tamer

Tiny Dancer

Olivia is soooo funny!

This little girl will dance to

ANYTHING

that has a beat.

Yesterday while I was doing the laundry,

Olivia came in to the laundry room and was standing

there when, all of a sudden, she noticed that the washing machine

had a rhythmic beat and she started

dancing to it!!!

It was the funniest thing.

I wanted to get a video of it but by the time it had occured to me she was done.

Too bad :(

I guess I'll just have to carry the video camera around

with me all of the time.

Our Trip Home From California

Let me start by saying that Noah and I had a

WONDERFUL

time in California.

Kristen is quite the hostess and kept

us constantly entertained.

On our return to Texas,

Noah and I saw the BIGGEST

vending machine we've

ever seen in our lives!

Of course we made a purchase and it was

really cool watching it work.

Noah said, "Wow! I bet that takes a lot of electricity!"

(by the way... there were a number of other pictures I wanted to post

however with my dial-up, it took about 7 minutes

to upload this one picture. So I wasn't in such a big rush

to add more!)

The Gift of Pie

Kristen wanted me to go over my pie crust recipe with her

and show her how it "works."

We ended up with an apple pie

(all from scratch, of course, I can't stand canned apple pie filling... too gritty)

And a pumpkin pie (Noah's favorite!)

We also made a top for her chicken pot pie.

She had already used a "freezer fresh" pie from the store

for the bottom and was going to make some other crust for the top.

That's really how this all got started.

I was supposed to show her days ago how to make my recipe

so it just spurred me into action when I saw her using a different recipe.

Let me know if you'd like a copy of my recipe.

Maybe I'll post it on my blog.

It's VERY easy and makes tons of pie crust.

Sushi is "de bomb"

I LOVE SUSHI!!!

Craig and Kristen took me out last night for sushi at this restaurant called Kiriko Sushi!

Kristen was less than excited about eating sushi and wouldn't even give it a try.

Not even smoked salmon sushi!!!

To me that is dessert. Craig loves it too, but Kristen opted for a salad that, granted, WAS really good, but it wasn't sushi.

Saturday at Ciudad

Saturday, Kristen took me to a cooking class at this cool restaurant in downtown LA, called Ciudad.

When Kristen and I lived in Utah I saw a show about this restaurant and tried to convince Kristen that we needed to fly out to LA for the day and go to lunch there and then come straight back home. I'm pretty sure she thought I was crazy... I know her husband, Craig, did.

I guess she's always remembered it though since we finally made it there!

How it works was we were assigned a table which we shared with another couple of ladies, Dorothy and Ginger, and we watched the chefs prepare all the meals that we would be tasting.

Here we are with the chefs, Mary Sue Miliken and Susan Feniger.

They did an awesome job and were sooo very funny!

Here is our desert. It was really great, however, we didn't think to take a picture of our dishes as they came out until the very end (boooo!)

We had a GREAT time and were soooo full.

I believe we went into a food coma afterward.

When we went to the beach on Thursday it was an impromtu visit so we weren't prepared with towels and swim suits.

This time we were prepared!

And we had a great time!

I had a fun time building a "castle" with the boys.

It was a real work out!

Noah has REALLY enjoyed being in California.

Especially the Pacific Ocean.

(Even if it was freezing cold!)

Noah and I are visiting my friend Kristen and Noah's friend Connor (Kristen's oldest) here in LA. While we've been here the weather has been VERY kind to us. So much so that we've been able to go to the beach (Noah's first time to the Ocean) and play in the water. It's been GREAT!

I'm moving over to blogger since most of my friends post here and I was looking for a "new face" for my computer to go with the "new face" I'll be getting for myself.

Let me explain...

When I was 12 I did what most kids my age did... I got braces put on. I then wore them for the next 5 years! At the end of the braces I had jaw surgery and ended up with a new face. A strangely unique experience, if I do say so myself.

Well, a week ago Thursday, I had the pleasure of getting braces put on again. I'm 34 years old and I have braces on again!!! And not only do I get to wear braces again, I get to have the surgery all over again! I'm such a lucky girl!

(Really, I am lucky since my insurance has agreed to pay for the surgery)

However, I DO feel like a 12 year old again. :(

(It is a little embarrassing to smile)

So, I'm keeping you posted of my progress with this as well as the events of the life of my family, my friends and myself.
